Why Your Hydra Shot Could Be Leaking and How to Fix It

If you've noticed some leaking from your Hydra Shot, don't worry! It's a common issue, and I'm here to walk you through why it happens and how you can prevent it. Let's get into it!

Understanding the Hydra Shot Design

First, let's take a look at the design of your Hydra Shot. There's a port on the bottle specifically designed to release excess gas if there's too much pressure building up inside. You might also see condensation coming out, which is totally normal.

When we first introduced the Hydra Shot, it came with a leaking pad to help manage pressure. At the time, it was necessary, but we’ve since made significant improvements. So, be glad to know that things have come a long way, and you won’t have to worry as much about leaks now!

The Leaking Process: Why Does It Happen?

Leaks typically happen when there's too much pressure inside the bottle, especially when you're filling it up. Here's why it happens:

  1. Filling Your Hydra Shot – When you fill your bottle, make sure to align the cap evenly and tighten it firmly. It's also important to avoid overfilling the bottle. Fill it just slightly above the first ring—don’t go too much higher.

  2. Hydrogen Gas and Pressure – Overfilling the bottle can cause the hydrogen gas to have nowhere to expand. The Triton plastic used in the Hydra Shot is designed to handle some expansion, but too much pressure has to escape somewhere, which often leads to leaks. So, if you fill it too high, the hydrogen gas needs to go somewhere, and it may result in leakage.

  3. Choosing Your Cycle – The Hydra Shot offers three cycle options: a 1-minute cycle, a 5-minute cycle, and a 10-minute cycle. If you go over the 10-minute cycle, more hydrogen gas builds up, which can lead to more leaking. The bottle is designed to handle pressure up to the 10-minute mark, so anything beyond that might cause it to leak.

If you stick to the 1-minute or 5-minute cycles, you're unlikely to see any leakage. However, if you opt for the 10-minute cycle, you may notice a drip or two as the gas builds up.

How to Avoid Leaks: A Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Align the Cap and Tighten It Firmly – Make sure the cap is even and tightened securely when attaching it.

  2. Don’t Overfill – Fill the bottle just slightly above the first ring. Too much water means too much pressure for the bottle to handle.

  3. Choose the Right Cycle – Stick to the 1-minute or 5-minute cycles to avoid leaks. If you prefer the 10-minute cycle, expect possibly a small drip due to higher pressure, but don’t worry—it’s normal.

  4. Release Pressure If Necessary – If the bottle seems to be building up too much pressure, use the pressure release port to let the gases escape.

  5. After the Cycle, Open and Drink – Once the cycle is done, simply open the bottle and enjoy your hydrogen-infused water!

It’s Normal for Some Leaks to Happen

If you notice a small leak from time to time, it’s nothing to worry about! It’s common, especially if you’re producing high amounts of hydrogen. In fact, it’s often a sign that you're cleaning your bottle regularly, which is great. Keep up the good work!

To ensure your bottle remains in top condition and to help reduce leaks, be sure to clean it regularly with the cleaning powder we recommend on our website.
